Being Named 2026 Young Australian of the Year for Tasmania
19.11.2025
I’ve cried, I’ve laughed, and I’ve had the most incredible time surrounded by love, support and so much joy.
I am truly honoured to be named the 2026 Young Australian of the Year for Tasmania. I’m still in shock, but overwhelmingly grateful. To the person who nominated me, thank you. Thank you for believing in me and in the program that has changed my life. When Jeremy announced my name as the winner, I was genuinely speechless. I didn’t expect this at all.

Life After School began five years ago when Damian Peirce asked me to speak to students about the realities of adulthood, things like tax, Medicare and the true cost of owning a car. That moment sparked my passion. I didn’t have this support when I was at school, so my mission has always been to make sure young people today are equipped with that knowledge. Damo, this wouldn’t be possible without you, thank you for believing in me and supporting me every step of the way.

A huge shoutout to my husband, who has been my rock through every high and low and been my biggest supporter. I am forever grateful for your patience, love and support always. To my parents and family, you are my world. I am very lucky to have a family that encourages me to keep going and make a difference in the world, one step at a time. And to my friends, colleagues and everyone that has backed me, thank you. Thank you for lifting me up every step of the way.

Congratulations to the other recipients and nominees. It is truly inspiring to see the work that you do and the change that you make in communities. I wish you all the best and can’t wait to see what is next for you.
Canberra here we come.
